Students Organize Diversity Day: A Culture Cabaret

Students of the Academies @ Englewood and Dwight Morrow High School will host two exciting diversity-related activities to encourage students on campus to share their cultures and diversity. The annual Diversity Day assembly will be held during the school day on Friday, January 20. That evening, a new event called Culture Cabaret will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the North Cafeteria. Culture Cabaret, will feature a selection of artistic performances from the Diversity Day assembly as well as refreshments and international desserts. This event is a fundraiser for the student-run Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund.

The Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund was formed one year ago, after Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Grieco’s untimely passing in October, 2004. The Scholarship Fund has already raised $10,000 and needs to raise another $6,000 by graduation, 2006.
Funds raised will be awarded to students in both schools in all grades. A senior from each school will receive $5,000 to be used for college. A freshman, sophomore, and junior from each school will receive $1,000 to go towards college or to be used for an academic summer program.

Tickets for the Culture Cabaret are $3 for students and $6 for adults. Donations to the Scholarship Fund can be mailed to Ms. Judy Aronson at A@E, 274 Knickerbocker Road, Englewood, New Jersey 07631. For further information or to order tickets to the Culture Cabaret, please call 201-862-6133.
